MORE VINTAGE VARIETY

416 THE TOAST OF THE TOWN

Get set for two "really big shows" hosted by Ed Sullivan. More vintage TV at its best, and both shows contain original commercials for Mercury!
1. 2/5/56: Guests are Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, who plug their latest film, "Forever, Darling". Also on hand are Orson Welles in a reading from "King Lear", the Four Ames Brothers, and an interview with Rodgers and Hammerstein.
2. 10/3/54: Sullivan devotes his entire show to a 60-minute salute to Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Also appearing are Vivian Vance and William Frawley. Desi sings his trademark, "Babalu", Vance and Frawley do a musical duet, lots of clips are shown, and a star-studded celebrity testimonial concludes the program.

449 THE CAVALCADE OF STARS (1950)
Starring Jackie Gleason

Here are two extremely RARE kinescopes of a very thin Jackie Gleason hosting his first variety program. These shows were done live soon after he took the program over from Jerry Lester, and he appears nervous at times. Both shows contain original Druggist of America commercials, as well as the old Dumont Network I.D. Due to the age and the condition of these kinescopes, they are not quite up to par with the usual Shokus quality. However, considering the scarceness of the shows, these are definitely worth adding to any serious vintage TV library.
1. 8/26/50: Guests are Bert Wheeler and actress Vivian Blaine. Comedy includes Bert continually harassing Jackie during his monologue. In the sketches, Jackie is a bachelor doing household chores, and Jackie and Bert are hunters in the jungle.
2. 9/16/50: Guests are Smith and Dale, Victor Borge, and an unknown, unbilled performer named ART CARNEY, who, in a sketch with firemen Smith and Dale, plays a panic-stricken wreck whose house has just gone up in flames. Other sketches include Jackie as the fastest draw in the west, and a Victor Borge musical-comedy bit at the piano.

476 THE LIBERACE SHOW (1954)

Here's the legendary pianist at his best in four classic programs, three with original commercials. Lee salutes dancing, personal holidays, San Francisco, and of course, pianos in almost two full hours of great music and entertainment!
